AAUW Hastings 2025/2026 Program Schedule
November 24, 2025 – 7:00 p.m. – Business Meeting. 7:30 p.m. Guatemala Dentistry, Common Hope
Speaker: Kelly Marthaler has been a dental hygienist for 20 years. She works at the New Art of Dentistry in Hastings. Kelly will be speaking about her many experiences with Common Hope, and the impact it has had on the people of Guatemala. Kelly was on board to go on a dental mission trip, and when the opportunity arose, she was excited. With her love for travel and helping others, she knew it would be an impactful trip for herself and the people of Guatemala. Common Hope promotes opportunities by partnering with children, families and communities who want to improve lives through education, healthcare, housing and family development. It offers free dental care to children and families with limited access to such services

Basma Ibrahim DeVries, Ph.D., a professor of Communication Studies at Concordia University in St. Paul, MN. Creating spaces of belonging and inclusion in these complex times requires heightened identity awareness, greater cultural sensitivity, and refined skills to bridge differences. Basma’s talk is free and open to the public at St. Philips Church Fellowship Hall in Hastings at 1401 15th St. W. at 7:30 p.m.
October 27, 2025 – 7:00 p.m. – Cancer Legal Care
Speaker: Meghan Scully, Managing Attorney
Meghan Scully is an attorney at Cancer Legal Care, where she assists clients in navigating the Social Security Administration’s disability programs.
Meghan’s legal career has focused on access and eligibility for government benefit programs.
Prior to joining Cancer Legal Care, she worked for a civil legal services provider managing several Medical Legal Partnerships. These unique collaborations between attorneys and health care professionals use legal advocacy to address barriers to individual and community health and well-being.
Meghan has taught poverty law and clinical courses at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and the University of Minnesota Law School.
